    Mr. Edward T. Deserre, age 86, of Utica, formerly of Ogdensburg, NY passed away on Sunday October 29, 2017 at the Masonic Care Community.

    He was born in Ogdensburg, NY on January 9, 1931 a son of the late Francis and Bernadette Gauthier Deserre. He served our country during the Korean War from 1948-1952 in the US Marines, and participated in the landings at Inchon and Wonsan, as well the Chosin Reservoir campaign where he was wounded. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for his heroic efforts. He was Safety Officer in the NYS Department of Mental Hygiene for over 30 years having worked at Marcy State Hospital, St. Lawrence State Hospital and Utica Psychiatric Center, until his retirement in 1987.

    Ed had a 25 year tenure in hydroplane boat racing, setting several records and winning numerous races. Later, in his retirement years things quieted down somewhat and he enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandson, Alec, and spending time at his camp in the foothills of the Adirondacks.

    Surviving are his companion Elizabeth (Teenie) Schuff of Utica; his sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Lisa Deserre of Scotia, NY, Joseph and Charlene Deserre of Pougquag, NY and Edward Deserre of Frankfort, NY; one sister Marguerite (Peggy) and Richard LaVigne of Ogdensburg, NY; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Bethany (Stevenson) Deserre, one son Peter Deserre and four siblings.

    Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga Veterans National Cemetery, Saratoga, NY.
