Mr. Andrew Nicholas Mondo, age 92, passed away on February 9, 2015 in Buffalo, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Utica in 1923 the son of the late Pietro and Ermelinda (Uberto) Mondo and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps., as a navigator on a B-24 Liberator for 35 missions in Europe during WW II. After returning home, he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson College of Technology. He was employed with the General Electric Co. in Utica and Syracuse for over 35 years until his retirement. On June 6, 1950 he was married to Alfreda J. Gill, a blessed union of 64 years until her passing on September 16, 2014.
Surviving are his two sons and daughters-in-law James A. and Lucy Mondo of CA. and Peter J. and Jo Mondo of TX; his daughter Andrea J. Mondo of NY: his beloved grandchildren Victoria Mondo Tompson, Andrew Mondo and Katherine Mondo; one sister Aurora Stidham; one sister-in-law Adele McHugh; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law Josephine and Frank Prumo, Lillian and Hutch Viskovich, Richard McHugh and James Stidham.
His Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held (tomorrow) Saturday morning June 18, 2016 at 10:00 am in St. Anthony/St Agnes Church, with Military Honors. Private entombment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.
