Tony was born to his wonderful parents Marianne and Manuel Joaquin on June 17, 1944, in Utica, NY where he grew up in East Utica. He graduated from Wetmore Grade School and Proctor High School where he excelled in sports. In 1963, he played for the Mohawk Valley (Frankfort) Falcons, a Semi-Pro football team and was in a photo in Sports Illustrated Magazine. Tony played fast and slow pitch softball for over 26 years along with his brother, Tom. In 1964, he started work for General Electric in Utica and then in 1969 went on to work for the next 34 years, 2 months and 16 days for the United States Postal Service in New Hartford, a job he truly enjoyed.
Tony and Gloria were married on July 30, 1966, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford and spent most of their life, loving and living together in Yorkville. Tony enjoyed the game of golf more than it enjoyed him. He and Gloria, together with their children also enjoyed camping. Tony was an active member of the Yorkville Fire Department for more than 41 years and spent 35 years as the Financial Secretary. He had a knack for riling up all the nieces and nephews and taking off while they got in trouble for being wild, hence, him being a “favorite uncle”.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife Gloria; daughter, Valerie and Eddie Bracey of Yorkville, who spent many years taking care of them gracefully and his son, Anthony Jr. and Michelle of KY. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey Alsheimer, Briana Joaquin, Nicolette and Jordan Hajdasz, Autumn Gardner and Josh Owens; beloved great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jonah, Nico, Penny, Hunter Scott and Love; his brother, Thomas and wife Barbara Joaquin; sister-in-law, Suzanne Joaquin; brother-in-law, Richard Becraft; in-laws, Earl and Kathy Whitaker, Barbara Artz, Pat and Mike Liberty, Duane Whitaker and Paul and Chris Whitaker as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially, the Frates Clan.
