Charles "Charlie-Chaz" Lewis

Mr. Charles “Charlie-Chaz” Lewis, age 78, of Utica, passed away on Saturday August 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital with the love and support of his beloved family.


He was born on April 16, 1940 in Lebanon, a son of the late George and Nabiha Zeina Lewis. He came to Utica as a young boy and was educated locally. At one time he was married to Eleanor Tartaglia and also Sharon Rogowski. He served in the Army National Guard for several years. Charlie was employed with Hamilton College for over 40 years in the Physical Plant Dept. and concurrently Abeloves Linen Co. for over 20 years. He was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church.

Charlie was an avid sports enthusiest, and was a devout Yankee's and Giants fan. Charlie's happiest moments were the time he spent with his beloved family, especially attending his children and grandchildrens sporting events. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his beloved family, but never forgotten.


Surviving are three beloved sons and daughters-in-law Charles Jr. and Wendy Lewis of FL., George and Karolyn Lewis of Chittenango and Scott (UPD) and Gina Lewis of Utica; beloved stepchildren Heather, Melinda and David Wortz, whom he loved as his own; cherished grandchildren Kari, Alison, Ryan (Renee), Nicholas, Alissa, Tyler, Mia, Dane, Ezra, Cescily and Wesley; beloved great grandchildren Jianna, Sophia, Aubrey and Scarlett; one sister-in-law Linda Lewis;  and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by three sisters Georgette Nehme, Rose Lewis and Leona Lewis and two brothers Joe Lewis and Anthony (Tony) Lewis.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed on Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Louis Gonzaga Church, with the Rev. Father Tony Mouanes and Deacon's Paul Salamy and Peter Hobaica officiating. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. The Prayers of Incense will be Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to his stepdaughter Melinda and niece Leona Abounader for their love and care given to Charlie during his illness. He loved you both very much.
