Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend

Lifelong restaurateur, musician and legendary sausage maker.

Mr. Daniel A. Falatico, Sr., age 82, of Utica passed away on Tuesday May 10, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Utica on August 10, 1933 a son of the late Rocco and Julia DeRosa Falatico and was a 1950 graduate of TR Proctor High School. A gifted baseball player, Dan graduated at the age 16, and was a four-year starter for Proctor's Varsity Baseball Team. He went on to play 18 years for MUNY League Baseball and was the 1st player to ever hit a home run under the lights at Murnane Field. On October 3, 2001 he was married to Karen Hanno, a loving and blessed union of 14 years. Dan was a self-employed business owner and restaurateur. He began his career in 1960 with the Dan Falatico Sausage Co. After 18 years, he then moved to Scottsdale, AZ and opened Falatico's Deli-Restaurant, subsequently he relocated to Hemet, CA. and opened Falatico's Ristorante. In 1981, Dan returned to Utica and opened F & F Importing Co. and in 1987 established Falatico's Sausage and Pasta Specialties Shoppe. His legendary sausage making was known throughout New York State. Dan was also an accomplished musician and band leader. In 1990 he founded the "No Name Band" and was its leader and Lead Trumpet Player. He enjoyed playing with other local bands including the Sal Alberico Orchestra and the Floyd Band. He was also a member of the La Banda Rossa "The Red Band" and for many years was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Local #57 musician's union. Many of his musician friends enjoyed the many lunches and dinners he prepared for them over the years. Dan's greatest enjoyment and proudest moments was when his daughter Julie would sing with him. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will forever live in the hearts of his beloved family.

Surviving are his loving wife Karen, his beloved son and daughter-in-law Daniel A. Jr. and Elaine Falatico of Rome, NY; his beloved daughter Julie Falatico of Utica and their mother Elvira (Romano) Coulson; his cherished grandchildren Daniel M. Handelman, Michael A. Fallone, Daniel A. Falatico, III and Gianni A. Falatico; two brothers Anthony Falatico and Dean Metzler of NJ and Rocco and Denise Falatico of CA.; three stepsons Michael T., Christopher C and Daniel A. Martin and children Daniel A. Martin Jr, and Daniel Martin and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Please omit floral offerings. The family extends a sincere Thank You to Dr. Fred Talarico and the staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion.
