Marcy-Dennis Toczala, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Abraham House in Rome surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 9, 1945, in Buffalo, NY a son of the late Frank and Estelle (Sliwa) Toczala. Dennis attended Hutch Tech High School and would go on to graduate from the University of Buffalo. On August 29, 1964, he married the love of his life, Helene R. Lepine in St. Joseph New Cathedral in Buffalo, a blessed union of 60 years. Dennis was a banker his entire life, working with various banks such as M&T Bank, the Bank of New England, Fleet Bank, Riverside Bank and Reliance Bank until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, a volunteer at the Abraham House, the Good News Center and active in the Retrouvaille Program all for nearly 10 years.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Helene; his son, Daniel C. (Dawn Marchitelli) Toczala; his grandchildren, Marc (Brittany Wescott) Toczala and Dominica (Adam Knight) Toczala; his great-granddaughter, Alana M. Recchio; his sister, Deborah (Bob) Gaydos; his aunts, Jean (Sliwa) DeCarolis and Joann (Sliwa) Serbinowski; his brothers-in-law Thomas Rackl Sr. and Bernard Lepine; sisters-in-law, Michelle and Micheline Lepine; nieces and nephews, Joanne (Rackl) Kavich, Robert Kavich, Thomas (Angela) Rackl, Diane (Rackl) Davies & Mark Davies as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Nicole D. Shaffer and his sister-in-law, Anne Rackl.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services which will be held on Saturday at 12 Noon at Mt. Carmel Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive guests following the Mass. Dennis will be laid to rest in the family plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, NY in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Dennis’ name may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel or the Abaham House. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
The Toczala family would like to thank Dr. Amy Grace, Dr. Alina Basnet, and the nurses and staff of Upstate Oncology as well as the staff of the Abraham House of Rome for the care and compassion shown Dennis.
