Mr. Dominick Morelli age 98, of Orlando Florida, formerly of Utica, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on February 15, 1917, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth ( Gelfuso) Morelli and educated in local schools.
Dominick proudly served his country in the Pacific campaign during WW II. Attaining the rank of Sergeant in the US Army, he actively participated in numerous conflicts and in particular was cited for his role in the battle for Luzon. He was awarded the WWII victory medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
On May 18, 1940, he was united in marriage to Libera (Lillian) Giangolini, a blessed marriage of 73 years until her passing on February 26, 2014. Dominick retired from NYS Civil Service on May 31, 1983.
In 1994, he relocated to central Florida and for the last 5 years resided in Orlando under the care of his daughter Beverly and son-in Law James Brady. He is also survived by two grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Paul Flis, Orlando Fl, David and Brenda (Eisenhauer) Brady, Forest Va. Four great grandchildren, Jacob and Rachel Flis, Elise and Evelyn Brady. He leaves one sister, Anna Morelli, two sisters-in law, Helen Morelli and Larrie Giangolini and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson James Brady, two sisters Mary and her husband Frank Mastrilli, and Grace Morelli, two brothers John, (his wife Victoria and son John Jr) and Benjamin.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at 9:00 am from The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave. and at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with Military Honors conferred. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
