Parish- Doris A. Gosch, 87, passed away in the comfort and dignity of her own home on Thursday, April 27, 2023.
She was born on October 5, 1935 in Syracuse to the late Robert T. and Garnet E. (Montando) Hayes. Doris graduated from Mexico Academy and Central Schools. On May 7, 1955, she married Donald J. Gosch in Camillus, a blessed union of 63 years prior to his passing on March 31, 2019.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She never left the house without looking practically perfect and was always known as a classy lady. Doris was a kind-hearted, gentle soul who was the perfect balance to her husband, Don. For years, they were side-by-side and enjoyed going on rides and visiting the Casino.
You would know that she entered the room from her famous tag line “Hey Babe!” as you were greeted with a big smile, an even larger hug and a “How ya doin’?” Doris was known for her cooking and baking. Holidays such as Thanksgiving were not complete without her stuffing and family events were not a hit until she pulled out her famous “slush” or baked one of her famous mayonnaise chocolate cakes.
Doris is survived by her three loving daughters, Ellen (Nick) Losito, Donna (John) Jones and Mary (Stephen Sr.) Karboski; grandchildren, Christy (Richard) Kirk, Ashley (Joe) Nadeau, Lorna Gosch, Christopher Jones, Stephen (Amanda) Karboski Jr., Matthew Losito, and Karly (Ben Sheehan) Gosch; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Katelyn Kirk, Roman Martinez, Xander, Ryan, Arabella Jones, Blake Nadeau and Reese Karboski; brother-in-law, Ted Rood; daughter-in-law, Karen Gosch and several nieces, nephews and friends, especially, Joyce Wilkinson, Audrey Haines and Mary Nadeau. She was predeceased by her son, Joe and her two brothers.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 4-6 PM at The Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave, Mexico, NY. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11 am from St. Anne, Mother of Mary Church, 3352 Main St., Mexico, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Joseph Salerno. Interment will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved, Don.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Doris’ name may be made to Hospice of CNY. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Although one of Doris’ passions was to attend calling hours and funerals, we will be sad that she will miss out on this one. However, our consolation is that she is no longer suffering and was met by Don and Joe to show her around in Heaven.
Doris’ family wishes to thank all those who have reached out during this difficult time, called, sent messages or visited to share memories of this matriarch.
Arrangements are under the direction of her grandson, Stephen Karboski Jr., the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home and the Harter Funeral Home.
