Mrs. Elaine T. (Merrick) Klein, age 81, of Utica, passed away on Saturday April 17, 2021 at the Foltsbrook Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s-Dementia, with the love and support of her family.
She was born in Utica on November 18, 1939 a daughter of the late Clinton T. and Elizabeth Carbone Merrick and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School. She was also a graduate of Utica School of Commerce with a Degree in Accounting. On May 2, 1959 she was married to Roger C. Klein, Sr. in St. Stanislaus Church, a blessed union of 62 years. Roger affectionately referred to her as “Gert”.
Elaine was employed with the General Electric Co for 20 years. Subsequently she was employed with the ICL Co., and Trenton Technologies until her retirement. During retirement Elaine fulfilled her time being a hostess at McDonald’s on Genesee St. where she made many friendships. Elaine was an excellent cook, but a terrible baker as her family would say. She always insisted, Holidays must be at her home. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Surviving are her beloved husband Roger (Ret. Sgt O.C. Sherriffs); one daughter and son-in-law Lori Lynn and Francis Szkotak of NY Mills; two sons and daughters-in-law Roger C. Jr., and Laurie Klein of Herkimer and Mike Sr. and Cynthia Klein of NY Mills; her cherished grandchildren Roger III and Ross Klein, Michael Klein, Jr., Nicholas and Christi Szkotak, Samantha Szkotak and Mark Klein Jr. and his mom Andrea Talarico; cherished great grandchildren Alexander and Olivia Szkotak and she was awaiting the arrival of her third great grandchild; one sister Lucille Aquaviva; one brother and sister-in-law Clinton T. Jr. and Rita Merrick; her in-laws Kathy and Ron Ford, Neal and Rose Klein, Gary Klein, Theresa, Kathy and Karen Klein. She was predeceased by her beloved son Mark Klein Sr., one sister Agnes Merrick and her brother Joseph Merrick and wife Barbara.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Funeral service prayers will be at the conclusion of visitation at 7:00 in the funeral home. All COVID protocols will be required as the funeral home is at reduced capacity. Interment will be in Carr Cemetery, Marcy. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the family who will share donations in her memory with special organizations.
