Ermalinda Erma (Seminaro) Dormio

June 15, 1930 — May 5, 2022

Utica

Mrs. Ermalinda Dormio, age 91, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Born in Utica on June 15, 1930, Erma was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Seminaro. Raised and educated in Utica, Erma was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. Following graduation, she furthered her studies at Binghamton University and later earned her Medical Secretary Certification from MVCC.  She worked at several medical facilities, was employed as a phone operator and later was the owner and operator of Casa Mia Retirement Home.

On July 19, 1958, she married Eugene 'Gene' Dormio with whom she shared a wonderful life for 27 years, prior to his passing on August 18, 1985.  A gracious matriarch, she provided tender, loving, care and support as a wife, mother and grandmother.  Family was always at the center of her heart. She held dear the many beautiful memories that graced her throughout the years and considered each of her children a joy and a blessing, often saying that being a mother was the best job in the world.

The childhood memories that Erma left her children while growing up were lasting and impacting.   Her loving approach to the celebration of special occasions, big and small, are traditions that she has passed down to each of them and make up just a few of the many warm and loving memories of home that will forever keep her close to their hearts. Erma was fond of cooking and baking, especially when relatives were welcomed for the holidays. She enjoyed golf, loved dogs and volunteered at the Humane Society.  She also loved horses, and in her early years would lead trail rides for the local stables.  Erma was a devoted New York Yankee fan and was especially fond of Derek Jeter. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and filled the role of Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Erma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Daniel Salerno of Charlotte NC, Gina and Angelo Maggiore of Charlotte NC, Kara and Ron Zabko of Springfield, VA, and her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Rose Dormio of Dacula, GA, grandchildren, Alexa and Zachary Zabko of VA, Aaron (Jeanette) Dormio of GA and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Lilianna and Arianna. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Paul Ferraro of Vernon, NY, her brother Frank and sister-in-law Phyllis Seminaro of FL and nephew Tony Young along with great nieces and nephews and cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Lisa Young.  She also leaves her canine companion, Tino.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11:00 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Steven Swan Humane Society in memory of Erma.
