Mr. Eugene R. "Gene" Torchia, Sr. age 91, passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at the Masonic Care Community.
He was born on November 7, 1925 in Clinton, NY a son of the late Dominic and Mary Scalzo Torchia and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He served our country from 1942-1945, during WWII in the US Army Air Force 645th Bombardment Squadron. He was married to Teresa Galime in 1947 a loving and blessed union of 36 years until her passing in 1983. He was then united in marriage to Joan Walters in 1989 a loving union, until her passing in 2013.
Gene was a life member of the Clinton American Legion and Clinton V.F.W, where he served as the past commander. He received the French Legion of Honor Medal for his service in France during WWII. He was a lifelong Model T enthusiast.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Eugene R. "Gene" Torchia, Jr. and Jana Torchia of CA; his beloved grandchildren James, Michael,and Steven; stepchildren Patricia Young and Dick Walters; sisters-in-law Madlyn Guidotte and Edith Tofani; nieces Cynthia Archer, Donna Tofani Milano and Mary Villano; nephews Steven Mercurio, Kenneth Mercurio, Ralph Costello and Richard Tofani. He was predeceased by one sister Elizabeth Williams and one brother John Torchia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life on Thursday September 28, 2017 at 10:30 am in Historic Old St. John's Church, 240 Bleeker St. Utica. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass in church.
