Utica/Wilmington, NC- Evelyn (Izzo) Cofano, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Poplar Grove Nursing Home in Burgaw, NC.
She was born on October 21, 1927, in Utica, a daughter of the late Nicola and Felicia (Cardamone) Izzo. Evelyn graduated from local schools. On October 21, 1946, she married Jack P. Cofano in Utica, a blessed union of 65 years prior to his passing on October 31, 2011. Her greatest achievement was being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her loving son, Jack A. Cofano, her grandchildren, Kirin Quonce and Jennifer Overton; her great-grandchildren, Nikolaus, Aaron, Bryce, Alex, Tanner, Kadin, Zachary and Kamren; her great-great-grandchildren, Piper and Philip as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was predeceased by her sisters, Mary (Sal) DeTraglia, and Yolanda (Frank) Talarico and her in-laws from the Cofano family.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 4-6 PM at the Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave., Utica. Funeral services will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 6 PM at the funeral home. Private interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jack.
The Cofano family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Poplar Grove Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown Evelyn during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Evelyn’s name may be made to a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
