G. Marilyn Baister, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Sitrin Rehabilitation Center with her daughters by her side. Marilyn enjoyed living independently at home with the help of her daughters and granddaughter Meredith.
She was born in Utica, NY on August 16, 1934, a daughter of the late Alton Gage and Esther Zimmerman Bernhard. She graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1952 and was employed by Chicago Pneumatic and New York Telephone Company. For nearly 40 years she was married to the late Eugene Baister with the blessing of their beloved children. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love and family. Eugene passed away in 2012.
For over 65 years, she enjoyed spending special times with family and friends at the family Adirondack camp on Lake Tekeni in Okara Lakes. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball, hockey and attending many sporting events and activities of her beloved grandchildren, who lit up her life.
She leaves her two beloved daughters, Kimberly Suwek of Deerfield, and Lori Baister of Pittsford, NY; her cherished grandchildren Hillary Fisher (Luke) of East Aurora, NY, Kyle Baister (Michelle) of Elma, NY, Megan Suwek of Austin, TX, Meredith Suwek of Clinton, NY, and Ryan Suwek of Deerfield, NY; along with five adored great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Noah, Trenton, Rhett and Anastasia; She also leaves behind special sisters and brothers, Barbara Minosh (Joe) of Frankfort; George Bernhard (Laurie) of Ontario, NY, Ronald Gage (Martina) of Frankfort, Alton Gage (Susan) of TX; Rosalyn Gaschler (Kevin) of TN and Patricia Easton (Chuck) of Frankfort; and a special godson/nephew Salvatore Borruso, Jr. along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
She was predeceased by her loving son Michael Baister in 2018, grandson Nicholas Baister, mother Esther Zimmerman Bernhard, father Alton Gage Sr., stepmother Rose Gage; a very special sister, Shirley Gage Borruso, and special friends Beverly & Edwin Bice.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Her funeral will be on Saturday August 17th, at 10:00 AM in Mary, Mother of Our Savior Church at (Our Lady of Lourdes Campus) 2222 Genesee St, Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, NY.
