Mr. George E. Gray, Sr. age 88, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on April 27, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late George and Margaret Kelly Gray, and was a graduate of UticaFreeAcademy.
On February 10, 1951 he was joined in marriage to Joyce Sainsbury in Utica, a blessed union of 55 years until her passing in 2006.
George was employed as a Machinist for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. for 37 years until his retirement in 1987.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, loved trivia, was a friend to all and was a true animal lover.
Surviving are one loving son and daughter-in-law, George E. Jr. (Ike) and Adair Gray of Utica; his granddaughter Rhiannon Gray, and grandson Mark J. Gray; one great-granddaughter, Noelle Gray; his daughter-in-law, Madelyn Stewart-Gray; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite feline companion Lily. He was predeceased by his son Mark P. Gray just 6 days prior on May, 9, and his brother Henry.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3 - 5 p.m. at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Funeral services will be at the conclusion of visiting hours at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Felix Colosimo officiating. Interment will be Monday at 12:00 (Noon) at Forest Hill Cemetery.
