Mr. Gerald P. Spiridilozzi, age 80, of Utica, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community with his loving family by his side.
He was born on August 19, 1932, in Utica, a son of the late Salvatore and Angeline Sisti Spiridilozzi. Educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School.
On June 21, 1958 he was joined in marriage to Mary Joan Collins in St. Joseph-St. Patrick Church, a blessed union of 40 years, until her passing on October 28, 1998.
Gerald proudly served his country during the Korean conflict era in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.
He started construction in 1955 as a Laborer. Jerry's hard work and determination to succeed was noticed in 1968 when he was appointed on the Executive Board of Laborers Local 35, becoming President of Local 35 in 1979 serving 9 years. Preceding Jerry's Presidency he was elected Business Manager of Local 35 where he served until his retirement in 1992. In May 1992 Gerald was appointed as an Executive Board member for Upstate New York Laborers District Council. He also served on the Board of the Municipal Housing Authority from 1990 to 2000.
Gerald was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He always had a kind word and big smile for everyone he encountered.
He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Jerry loved playing Poker in his pastime and enjoyed making as many frequent trips around the country as possible.
Surviving are his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Linda S. (Emad) Spiridilozzi of Kirkville, Angelo Spiridilozzi of Utica, and Gerald Jr. and Drema Spiridilozzi of Cold Brook; one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Fred Dishaw of Rochester; five cherished grandchildren, April Walker and her husband Steve, Austin Spiridilozzi, Lucas Spiridilozzi, Cameron Spiridilozzi and Jessica Alamond; four cherished great-grandchildren, Gianna Marie Walker, Savannah Lee Walker, Noah James Dishaw, Jacob Lee Dishaw and Felix Morales; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Sister Eleanor Grace Spiridilozzi, Sister Mary Jacqueline Spiridilozzi, and Lucy and Angelo Simone; one sister-in-law Congetta Spiridilozzi; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
