Helen Jeanette (Zalatan) Ayoub

Mrs. Helen Jeanette (Zalatan) Ayoub, age 88, of Utica, passed away on Sunday December 20, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a long illness.

She was born March 31, 1927 in Utica, a daughter of the late Anthony and Jamala Hallak Zalatan, and was educated in local schools. On December 2, 1951 she was united in marriage to Theodore Ayoub, a blessed union of 36 years, until his passing in 1987.

Helen was employed in the family business, Zalatan Brothers Market on James St, where she worked several years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Surviving are two loving daughters and a son-in-law, Debi and Edward Dottino of NJ, and MaryJane Ayoub of Las Vegas; three loving sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Ayoub of Syracuse, Theodore and Joanne Ayoub of Utica, and David and Karen Ayoub of Syracuse; her cherished grandchildren, Angela, Pamela, Theodore III, Angelina, David Jr., Grace , Gretchen, and great grandchildren, Nicholas & Alyssa; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alice Durbin, and Mary and Betty Zalatan and four brothers Louis, Edward and George Zalatan and Samuel who passed away just hours after Helen.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday (today) from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave., Utica.

Committal Services will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Forest Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. James Cesta officiating.
