Mrs. Helen A. (Nehme) Carzo age 67, of Utica, passed away on Thursday February 18, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital Center after an extended illness, with her beloved husband by her side.. She was a profile in courage as she faced all that was placed upon her with grace, dignity, remarkable resilience, and a determination that inspired all who loved her, prayed for her, and now mourn her loss.
She was born in Utica on January 16, 1954 a daughter of the late George and Georgette Lewis Nehme and was a 1973 graduate of Utica Free Academy. On November 8, 1986 she was married to Rocco G. Carzo in St. Louis Gonzaga Church, a blessed union of 34 years. Helen’s career in business and finance spanned some 39 years, first with Montgomery Ward & Company a business operations manager, followed by the Utica City School District’s Business Office, before retiring several years ago.
Helen’s children were the “jewels in her crown,” a fiercely devoted mother, faithful wife, loving daughter, and cherished sister, her family was the center of her universe. Known for having a flair for fashion, Helen had a reputation for being exceptionally fond of her clothes, jewelry, and accessories. Regardless of the event or activity, she guarded with jealousy her standard for arriving late, and always being the best dressed in the crowd. Besides her family, Helen absolutely loved to go shopping, and whenever she did it was a marathon. She loved the annual “Shop-a-Rama” with the “girls.,” and enjoyed her weekly jaunts with her shopping partner, Kathy Cortese. She leaves her loving family and many friends the blessings of so many memories.
She is survived by her beloved husband Rocco, her loved and cherished children Rocco Carzo and Alexis Carzo (Kam Wallace); one sister and brother-in-law Donna and Rick Rumery of CT.; two brothers George Nehme and John Nehme, Sr. of Utica; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan Nehme, Sharon Corrente, Florence “Florie” and William C. Jones, John Carzo and David Carzo. In addition, she leaves nine nephews and nieces, especially her adored nephews John Nehme, Jr. and Joseph Nehme, many beloved cousins, Godchildren, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Georgette and George Nehme, Mother-in-law and father-in-law Lena and Rocco L. Carzo, her maternal and paternal grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and her brother-in-law James Corrente.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed on Friday at 11:00 am in St. Louis Gonzaga Church, Celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Boutros El Hachem. All COVID protocols will be required, face masks, social distancing and church trace signing. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to contribute to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in Helen’s memory to support Breast Cancer research.
