James M. Hyatt, 64, of Greenview Dr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on December 30, 1953 a son of Edmond R. and the late Clara T. Camillo Hyatt. He graduated from Utica Free Academy and Mohawk Valley Community College with a degree in criminal justice. He served in the US Army from 1973-1976 as a Military Police Officer. On November 22, 1980 at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, Utica, he was united in marriage to the former Claudia A. Famolaro. James was a police officer at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome and later Rome Lab for over 30 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Historic Old St. John’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, classic cars and riding his Harley Davidson. But most of all he loved his family.
Surviving are his loving wife Claudia; a son and daughter in law, James II and Lisa Hyatt and a daughter and son in law, Brianne and Ron Fontaine both of New Hartford. His adored grandchildren, Vincent and Cecilia Hyatt and Gioia and Lia Fontaine; his father, Edmond R. Hyatt of Boonville; his father in law and his wife, Salvatore “Sam” and Janet Famolaro of Utica; two sisters and a brother in law, Teddi and Joe Minuti of New Hartford; Tina Conte and Mike Rinehard of Whitesboro; three brothers, Michael Hyatt and Sharon Beene of TX; Joseph Hyatt of Boonville; David Hyatt of FL.;his in-laws Gina and Tom Cusworth and James and Charlene Famolaro, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his canine friend Zoey. He was predeceased by two brothers Edmond R. Hyatt II and Brian F. Hyatt.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 1 PM from Old Historic St. John’s Catholic Church, 240 Bleecker St., Utica, NY. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4 to 7 PM at the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc., 1122 Culver Ave., Utica, NY. Contributions in James memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Graziano and his staff; Dr. Kenneth Murphy and the staff of the St. Luke’s Interventional Dept. for being so kind, caring, and compassionate during James' illness.
