Mr. James V. Ray, age 94, of Rome, NY, passed away on Friday October 4, 2013 at RomeMemorialHospital, Residential Health Care Facility.
He was born on May 10, 1919 in Rome, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Lillian Camparetta Ray and was educated in Rome schools.
On October 5, 1946, he was joined in marriage to the late Laura A. Camardo in St. Anthony of PaduaChurch, Utica, a blessed union of 58 years until her passing on August 10, 2005.
James proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII.
He was employed for many years at Revere Copper and Brass Co., retiring in 1981.
He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church; a member of the Ava Dorfman Center, Rome Senior Citizens, Toccolana Club, and of the Revere Athletic Assoc. He was an avid bowler and an OTB enthusiast.
Surviving are one beloved daughter and son-in-law, Liliane and Anthony F. Grieco, of Rome; his beloved son, James V. Ray, Jr. of Rome; his cherished grandchildren, Anthony and Kristin Grieco, James and Bridget Grieco, Laura E. and Yoel Cervantes, and James V. Ray III; five great-grandchildren, James Patrick, Rachel Megan, John Francis and Rose Helena Grieco, and Matteo Anthony Grieco; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Frank Ray and two sisters, Phyllis Giardino and Hortense (Tee) Costello.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the BaptistChurch, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in St. John the BaptistCemetery.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at The Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home 218 W. Court St.
