Mrs. Joan C. (Giehl) Montrose, age 76, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 20, 2013 with her beloved family by her side. She was born on December 21, 1936 in Utica, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Henrietta I. French Giehl, and was educated in local schools. Joan was employed by General Electric for several years, and also the Masonic Care Community for many years until her retirement. Surviving are her son Michael Giehl of Syracuse; two daughters and one son-in-law, Renee and Joseph Reilly of Cicero, NY, and Joanne Montrose (Will) of Frankfort: seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Melissa and Katelynn Reilly, Kayla Giehl, Dylan and Tyler Montrose and Brent Pfeiffer; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary and George Zegibe of New Hartford, and Donna and Vincent Speciale of Utica; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to the American Heart/Stroke Assoc. Envelopes will be available. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-8 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.
