Joan (Walters) Torchia

Mrs. Joan (Walters) Torchia, age 90, of New Hartford, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Siegenthaler Center, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on November 16, 1922 in Utica, a daughter of the late Frederick M. and Helen Droz Walters. Educated locally she was a graduate of St. Francis DeSales School and a graduate of Utica School of Commerce.

Joan was married to John Walters on May 19, 1943. He passed away in 1980 after 37 years of a loving marriage. She was then married to Eugene R. Torchia, Sr. on November 16, 1989 in St. Mary's Church, a blessed union of 24 years.

She was employed as a supervisor for The Post Insurance Agency until her retirement in 1987, after many years of service.

Joan was a dedicated Life Member of Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Eugene, of New Hartford; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Young of Waterville, NY; one son, John R. Walters, of PA; grandchildren, Scott and Sharon Young, Julie and Todd Peveler, Andrew Young and Christine Walters; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Samantha Young and Josh and Nathan Young; one great-great granddaughter, Kaylin Young; her step-son Eugene Jr. and Jana Torchia, of CA and their sons, James, Michael and Steven Torchia; one sister, Janet Dundon, of Rochester, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.

Funeral services will be at the conclusion of visiting hours at 1:30 pm at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joseph Zareski officiating.Private interment will be in St.AgnesCemetery.
