Mr. John J. Piccola age 78, of Utica, passed away on Friday January 8, 2021 at the Lutheran Home after a courageous battle with Dementia.

He was born on February 27, 1942 in NYC, NY a son of the late Louis and Margaret Congelosi Piccola. On November 21, 1970 in Long Island City, NY, he was married to Alexandria “Sandy” Zavatsky a blessed union of 50 years.

John was employed for over 37 years with the US Postal Service until his retirement. He then was employed with the Birnie Bus. Co. for over 10 years. John’s favorite past-time was playing pool (Billiards). He was an excellent player and had the privilege of being in the presence of the great World Billiards Champion “Willie Mosconi”. He was a daily staple at Hippo’s Billiards and was known to all as “Brooklyn John”.

Surviving are his beloved wife Sandy; his daughter Karen Piccola of Utica; his son and daughter-in-law John II and Rani Piccola of Yorkville and his cherished granddaughter Sophie; and his friends at Hippo’s.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of the Lutheran Home especially Sarah for their care and compassion given to John.
