John “Lanny” Romano, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday March 1, 2023, with the love and support of his two daughters by his side.
He was born in Utica, on August 22, 1932, a son of the late Louis and Rose Perrone Romano and was educated in local schools. He served our country in the US Army from 1951-1953. On February 19, 1955, he was married to Rosemarie J. Dichiera in Mt. Carmel Church, a blessed union of 50 years, until her passing in 2005. Lanny was employed in the Union Construction Trade, until his retirement. He was devoted to his Mt. Carmel parish, serving as usher and festival chairperson throughout the years.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia Jean and David R. Roefaro and Laura Jean and Perry Jacobs; beloved grandchildren Mario (Christina) Roefaro, Franca Roefaro (Anthony DeMichele), David (Dayanne) Jacobs, Crystal (Scott) Williams and Zachary (Jessie) Jacobs; cherished great grandchildren Gabriel, Luca, Noah, Rosemarie, Angelo, Angelik, Alessandro and Jake; two sisters and brothers-in-law Laura Jean and Russell Leone, Amelia “Millie” Passante and Byron “Todd” Abraham: in-laws Dolores Sarcone, Tessie Collicco, Nicki Strickler, Jackie Grande (Tom), Rita (Pete) Moore, Marguerite Dichiera and several loving and devoted nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Beatrice (Andy) Gambino, Mary (Angelo) Conte and Rosemary Abraham; his brothers Pete (Herda) Romano, Vito (Rosalie) Romano, Frank (Dorothy) Romano, Albert and Louis “Jr” Romano.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Joseph Salerno officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica.
The family extends a sincere Thank You to the staff at the Masonic Home especially nurse Crystal, who was devoted to Lanny’s care.
