Mrs. Lena M. (Nivaggi) Grasso, age 99, of Utica passed away on Wednesday January 10, 2018 at the Masonic Care Community with her beloved family by her side.
She was born in Utica on February 27, 1918 a daughter of the late Giovanni and Teresa Simone Nivaggi and was educated in local schools. On October 19, 1940 she was united in marriage to Carmen Grasso in St. Anthony of Padua Church, a blessed union of 53 years until his passing in 1993.
Lena was employed for many years with the General Electric Co. and also the Con-Med Corp. until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church.
Surviving are her three beloved daughters and sons-in-law Joanne Yacco of Utica, Elaine and Joseph Madia of Utica, and Patricia and Albert Zumpano of Whitesboro; her beloved grandchildren Steven and Carolyn Yacco, Deborah and Jerry Bevivino, Joseph Madia III and Rose McGualey, Jeffrey Madia and Anna Phillips, John and Marie Madia, Albert and Nicole Zumpano and Dr. Marissa and Daniel Kalil; her beloved great grandchildren, Steven, Jessica and Sarah Yacco, Vincent and Dominique Bevivino, Samantha Wells, Colin, Ciara, Jordan and Lucas Madia, Olivia and Nora Kalil, Tessa, Lena Rose and Lillian Zumpano; two brothers and a sister-in-law Vincent and Claudia Nivaggi and John Nivaggi; and many special nieces and nephews, especially Thomas Graziano, Jr. and godson Richard Ferraiola. She was predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law Angeline and Joseph Ducato and Josephine and Thomas Graziano, in-laws Emily Nivaggi, Joseph and Philomena Grasso, Anthony and Mary Grasso, Angelo (Ginger) and Mary Grasso, Theresa and Joseph Comito, Frances and Ralph Franco and Santina and Anthony Graziano.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. William Krause, and the staffa��of the Westchester wing at the Masonic Care Community, and also sincere gratitude is extended to Rosanna and Nancy for their kindhearted love and care.a��
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.
