Linda (McD) Porcelli
1939-2025
New York Mills- Linda (McD) Porcelli, age 85, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Katherine Luthera Home after a lengthy battle with dementia.
She was born in Tarrytown, NY on April 6, 1939, a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph and Dorothy (Yocum) McDowell. Linda received her bachelor’s degrees from New Rochelle College and Albany State College and would go on to graduate from the Newton College of Sacred Heart in Newton MA., where she received her master’s degree (MPH) in English. On August 26, 1979, she married Gary Porcelli in St. Mary’s Church in Glenns Falls, a blessed union of 45 years. Linda was an English/Creative Writing teacher for UFA and Proctor High school for 26 years until her retirement. She was a communicant of Historic Old St. John’s Church and was very active in the New York Mills Community and a member of the Utica Maennerchor.
Linda is survived by her husband, Gary; her brother and sister-in-law Michael (Linda) McDowell, Glens Falls; sisters-in-law, Adair Gray and JoAnn McDowell; brother-in-law, Douglas (Cindy) Porcelli; niece, Rhiannon J. Gray; grandnieces, Kira and Catalina; nephew, James “Kama” Kim (Amanda Porcelli) and Bryan; her cousins, Carol (Rev. Stanley) Bower and several relatives in Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, John McDowell and brother-in-law George Gray Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00- 7:00 PM at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., Utica. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10:00 am in Historic Old St. John’s Church, Downtown Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Private interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Linda may be made to Historic St. Johns Church Choir or the Hope House. Envelopes will be available.
The family extends a heartfelt Thank You to Rev. Tom Servatius and Rev. John Buehler for their spiritual guidance and friendship, and also to the nursing staff of the Bryant Unit at the Lutheran Home for their care and compassion.
