Mrs. Lois M. Conte, 86, of Utica passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Utica on January 3, 1931, a daughter of the late John and Hazel Moran Mack, and was a graduate of UFA High School. Lois married her high school sweetheart, Alfonse (Al) V. Conte, on September 30, 1950. Together, they proudly raised eight children, and were married for 58 years until his passing on October 21, 2008.
Lois selflessly and passionately centered her life around her children and grandchildren. She was the epitome of a mother - dedicated, unconditionally loving, and awesomely entertaining. She had an open heart and an open door and all who knew her came to love her.
Surviving are her children Donna DeRocco of Utica, Victor and Eileen Conte of Utica, Michael Conte of Medellin, Colombia, Cathi and Bob Morgan of Whitesboro, MaryJo and Larry Fredsell of Utica, Carolyn and Kevin Latimer of MA, and Susie and Charlie Greene of NJ; grandchildren Gina and Joe Martino, Frank and Nicole DeRocco, Vinnie and Krystle DeRocco, Patrick DeRocco, Michele and Paul Dischiavo, Vic and Carrie Conte, Erin Morris, Lynette and Jay Dundon, Marianne and Brian Nichols, Amanda and Pat Carney, Alan Conte, Ryan and Miriam Morgan, Alli Morgan, Lawrence Fredsell, Nathan Fredsell, Ashley Fredsell, Eric Latimer, Jackie Latimer, Sidney Greene, Chris and Tricia Lucas and Jenny Lucas; great grandchildren Nicole, Joey, Ava, Devon, Mia, Andrew, Ella, Sean, Matthew, Brett, Addie, Jack, Danielle, Frank Jr., Leo, Aidan, Clara, Chase, Garrett and Jacob and one great-great grandchild Preston; brother Bob Mack, sister Cindy Loeschner and husband Alvin; in-laws Al Johnson and Joyce; Danilo Lopez Roman; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. She was excitedly awaiting the birth of her twin great-granddaughters and her great-grandson. She was predeceased by her beloved son Alan R. Conte on January 2, 2017; her son-in-law Frank DeRocco; grandchildren Joe Cassella and Heather Morgan; sister Patricia Johnson, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Violet Mack; in-laws Rosemarie Mack, Victor and Josephine Conte, MaryLou and John Passiatore, and step-father Pete Bauder. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her angels who cared for Lois for the last 3 years in her home. Also a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 3rd floor at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 10:30 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
