Maria E. (daSilva) DeFreitas

Maria E. (daSilva) DeFreitas, age 59, of Liverpool, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY.

She was born on June 9, 1953 in Maderia, Portugal, a daughter of Eduardo daSilva and the late Louisa Freitas daSilva.

Maria relocated to the U.S. from Portugal and settled in the Utica area in 1976. At one time she had been wed to Abel G. DeFreitas. Maria moved to Syracuse in 1990.

She was a Seamstress for Leabury Clothing in Syracuse for many years, and at one time she was employed by Joseph and Feiss Co. in Utica, NY.

Maria was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of PaduaChurch.

She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who took great pride in her home, she loved to cook and share her culinary delights with her family and friends and had a great fondness for gardening. She loved to travel all over the world with her long time companion Frank Vita, Sr.

She is survived by her father, Eduardo daSilva; one loving daughter, Patricia DeFreitas; one loving son, Abel Steven DeFreitas; three cherished grandchildren, Tionna DeFreitas, Marcella DeFreitas and Makaiyah DeFreitas; her loving companion with whom she resided, Frank Vita, Sr.; eight brothers and sisters, including her twin sister who resides in Portugal; and one brother and a host of family who reside in MA; many aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins and her devoted dog Martini and "grand-dog" Patron.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.

Her funeral will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visiting hours at the funeral home, with the Deacon Paul Salamy officiating.
