Mary J. (Tartaglia) Velardi, 86, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022, in the comfort and peace of her own home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 26, 1936, in Utica, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Christine (Paige) Tartaglia. Mary graduated from Proctor High School and went on to attend the Utica School of Commerce. She worked for a short time at General Electric until she took on the most important role of her life, mother, where she raised and took care of her children.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Yvonne (Joe) Bronga, Westmoreland, Yvette (Harry) Hulett, Westmoreland, Crispino (Frances) Velardi, Salvatore (Judy) Velardi, Yolanda Velardi-South, all of Utica and Louis (Joanne) Velardi, Marcy; grandchildren, April (Scott Fowler) Velardi, Harry (Jenn) Hulett II, Crispino (Amanda) Velardi, Sasha Hulett, Bianca Velardi, Antonio Velardi, Valerie Velardi, Salvatore Velardi and Lucas Velardi; great-grandchildren, Anthony Fowler, David, Mason and Connor Coldren, Harry Hulett III, Scarlett and Gemma Velardi; sisters, Ann (Dan) Tobiasz and Eleanor Massi, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving companion, Louis Geno Sr; son-in-law, Marvin South; sisters, Theresa (Ron) Carlone and Lucille (Chuck) Brucker; brothers, Anthony (Lucy), James (Goldie), Joseph, John and Michael (Cheryl) Tartaglia.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Mary’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
Mary’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. as well as Dr. Visalli for the care and compassion shown during a difficult time.
Funeral services will be on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 10am at Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Mary's family will receive guests following the Mass. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Mausoleum.
