Mrs. Minerva (Shook) Papelino, age 72, of Washington Mills passed after a long battle with a neurological illness on Thursday March 10, 2016 with her loved ones by her side.
She was born in Utica, a daughter of the late Hamed and Fodma El Hage Shook and was educated in local schools and was a 1961 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On August 18, 1962 she was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Papelino in San Jose, CA a loving and blessed union of 46 years until his passing on October 16, 2008. She was employed with The Hartford Ins. Co. for several years until her retirement.
Minerva was a very humble woman. She enjoyed watching the TV show "The Voice", doing word searches and crosswords. However, her greatest joy came from the love of her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose life centered around her family. Her happiest time was that spent with her children, grandchildren, and the family dog Gia "Fluffer". She especially loved cooking for her family, particularly her Arabic Cuisine. She will be sadly missed, but her family will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Surviving are her son Christopher Papelino; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and William Ouellette of Sauquoit; son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Celia Papelino of Marcy; cherished grandchildren Gabriella and Madeline Ouellette; two brothers and sisters-in-law Al and Olive Shook and Nazer and Fay Shook; brother-in -law Mohamed El Meir and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters Julia El Meir, Emily Purcell and Marion Moore and one brother Fred Shook.
Her visitation and Mass of Christian Burial was held privately at the convenience of the family in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Salerno. Private burial was held in Forest Hill Cemetery. In memory of Minerva, please consider a donation to the National Organization of Rare Disorders (NORD).
