Mr. Nicholas Avella age 88, of Utica, passed away on Thursday February 11, 2021 at the Sitrin Health and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness with the love and support of his family.
He was born in Utica on March 10, 1932 a son of the late Carmen and Rose Scalice Avella and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School Class of 1950. Nicholas served our country in the US Army from 1953-1954.
Nicholas had a love for animals, which led him to a career as a Horse Farrier. He serviced many horses throughout Central New York for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his sister Jackie Bateman; his brother and sister-in-law Gene and Linda Avella; and his nieces and nephews Don Bateman, Bob Bateman, Linda Nicolette, Andrew (Tara) Avella and Aubrey Avella and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Jim Avella.
The family will honor Nicholas in a private ceremony with Military Honors conferred by the US Army. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Agnes Cemetery.
The family extends a sincere Thank You to the staff of the Sitrin Rehabilitation Center, and also to Nick’s dear friends Tammy Tippie and Greg Santry for their constant kindness and support.
