Richard (Sonny) Styc

March 27, 1940 — August 17, 2013

Mr. Richard (Sonny) Styc, age 73 of New Hartford, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his beloved family by his side.

He was born on March 27, 1940 in Utica, a son of the late Stanley and Helen Kwiatkowski Styc. Educated locally he was a graduate of UFA and MVCC.

After attending college, Dick worked as an engineer for many company's including IBM, General Dynamics, and GE.

Sonny, as he was often known, was a restaurateur/entrepreneur who launched Mr. Steak, The HOOK Line and Sinker, Grandaddy's and Willoughby's. His knowledge astonished not only industry but family as well.

Sonny enjoyed planes trains and automobiles, all water sports, and preparing 5 star meals for his family.

Sonny was a pilot, an avid visitor of the former YMCA, he also enjoyed spending time at his camp on 4th Lake, the Boy Scouts, motorcycling, and the breakfast club especially frequenting Ridgewood Market. Dick was one of a kind with the uncanny ability to make a joke and entertain. Dick did it his way, living life to the fullest with no regrets.

He was a loving and devoted father who will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Surviving are his two sons, Philip Rosser-Styc of New Hartford, and Damian Styc of FL; his beloved K9 Cherry, numerous cousins, several nieces and nephews; and special friends Rev. Paul Drobin, Matt Langow, Steve Langow, Dan Loconti, Dennis Hart, Fred Silber, Brian Farley, Jim Quinn, CRASH, Jack O'neil, Charlie Parker, Bob Vanderpool, Trish Visconti, and Roz Kover. He was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy Weiderman.

Per Dick's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
