SGT. Roger C. Klein Sr.
1940-2024
UTICA- Roger C. Klein Sr. age 84, passed away on March 7, 2024 at the Wynn Hospital.
He was born in Utica on January 3, 1940, a son of the late John S. and Orvetta (Becker) Klein. Roger attended UFA and would go on to graduate from MVCC focusing on Law Enforcement. On May 2, 1959, he married the love of his life, Elaine T. Merrick in St. Stanislaus Church, a blessed union of 62 years until her passing on April 17, 2021. Roger was employed with the Oneida County Sherrif’s Department as a Sergeant for 14 years until his retirement. After retirement, Roger opened RCK Investigators, his own private investigation firm.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Roger was an avid Bills and Yankees fan who loved watching the games with his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving family, one daughter and son-in-law Lori Lynn and Francis Szkotak of SC; two sons and daughters-in-law Roger C. Jr., and Laurie Klein of Herkimer and Mike Sr. and Cynthia Klein of NY Mills; his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Christine Szkotak, Samantha Szkotak, Roger Klein III and fiancée, Shelby King, Ross Klein, Michael Klein, Jr. and Johna Cusworth, and Mark Klein Jr. and his mom Andrea Talarico; cherished great grandchildren Alexander, Olivia and Xavier Szkotak and Grayson King; brothers-in-law, Ron Ford and Clinton (Rita) Merrick; sisters-in-law, Kathy Klein, Theresa Klein, Karen Klein and Lucille Aquaviva, as well as several cousins and his canine companion, Dudley. Roger was predeceased by his beloved son, Mark Klein Sr.; his brothers, Ronald, Bob, Kenny, Tom, Neil (Rose), and Gary and his sisters, Cheryl (James) McElhinney, Rosetta (Ron) Reichle, and Kathy Ford.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave. Funeral services will commence immediately following visitation at 6 PM at the funeral home. Private interment will take place in Carr Cemetery where Roger will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Elaine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
