Mrs. Ruth L. (Dann) Shaheen, age 94, of Utica, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community.
She was born on January 24, 1918, in Dryden, NY, a daughter of the late Clayton M. and Elva Pond Dann. Ruth was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Nursing, and worked as a nurse at SyracuseGoodShepardHospital following graduation.
On July 3, 1943, she was joined in marriage to Dr. A. Louis Shaheen in New York City, a loving and blessed union of 69 years.
Ruth was an RN for many years at ColumbiaPresbyterianHospital in NYC, and for several various hospitals in NY and NJ before retiring.
She was a parishioner of St. JohnEvangelistChurch in New Hartford.
An avid golfer, she was a member of the Woman's Golf League at Twin Ponds Golf and Country Club, and at Stonebridge Country Club. She also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Dr. A. Louis Shaheen; six loving daughters and four sons-in-law, Dr. Kathleen Shaheen Sinnott and Bob Sinnott of Diamond Point, NY, Mary Louise Shaheen of CA, Ruth Ann and Fran Pugliese of New Hartford, Sara Shaheen of Clinton, NY, Paula Jean and David Farnsworth of Jordan, NY, and Andrea and Albert Williams of NC; one loving son and daughter-in-law, Paul D. and Rita Shaheen of Kerhonkson, NY; fourteen cherished grandchildren and nine cherished great-grandchildren; her in-laws, Agnes and Charlie Lewis of Westmoreland, Mary and Tom Maroun of Fl., Tony Ferris of New Hartford, Dr. George Shaheen of Fayetteville and Anna Dann of Dryden, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 12:00 Noon in St. JohnEvangelistChurch, New Hartford. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
There will be no public visitation.
The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of Mass in the church.
The family wishes to extend a sincere Thank You to the staff of the Saratoga Household at the Masonic Care Community for their care and compassion given to Ruth and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's name may be made to the Abraham House or the Dr. Abraham L. and Ruth Shaheen Family Fund at The Community Foundation of Oneida-Herkimer Counties. Envelopes will be available.
