Sam D. Foresti, Sr

Mr. Sam D. Foresti, Sr. age 86, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 6, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital with his beloved family by his side.

He was born in Utica, on July 18, 1929 a son of the late Joseph and Jennie Ruggiero Foresti and was educated in local schools, and was a 1948 graduate of TR Proctor High School. Sam proudly served our country during the Korean War from 1948-52 in the US Navy as a radio operator aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Leyete CV32. On July 3, 1954 he was married to Adelaide Scotese in St. Anthony of PaduaChurch, a blessed union of 61 years.

Sam's employment spanned many years having worked for the Special Metals Co, the McDonalds Corp. and for over 28 years was a dedicated employee of the Wonder Bread Baking Co. until his retirement.

He was a Noble Degree member of the Knights of St. John Commandary # 385,where he served as Sergeant at Arms; a member of the American Legion Post #229, and was a parishioner of St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, where Sam volunteered his time for many events, whether it be for the annual church bazaar or his specialty Pancake Breakfasts. A dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Surviving are his beloved wife Addie, his three children Sam Jr. and Kathie Foresti of Baldwinsville, Debra and Donald Cardarelli of Skaneateles and Mark and Cynthia Foresti of Deerfield; NY; his beloved grandchildren Selena and Briant Buckner, Dana and Luke Spencer, Donna Cardarelli, Thomas and Annalisa Cardarelli, Rosemary and Corey Pierno, Nicholas, Samantha and Michael Foresti; beloved great-grandchildren Everett, Chloe, Braiden, Payton, Matthan, Kadance, Traison and Landon; one sister Katherine (Kay) LiBritz of Utica; one brother and sister-in-law Frank and Theresa Foresti of CA; his brother-in-law Joseph A. Scotese of Binghamton; one uncle Ralph Ruggiero of CA., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his canine buddy, Jewels. He was predeceased by one sister Mary Putrelo and two brothers Francis and Joseph Foresti.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 10:00 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, Utica, with Military Honors conferred by the US Navy. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. The Knights of St. John will assemble at 6:00 pm Friday for ritual services as well as stand Honor Guard.
