Mr. Samuel J. Simon, Sr. age 90, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday September 6, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his beloved son Sam and family by his side.

He was born in Utica on June 5, 1933, a son of the late Abraham and Ida Joseph Simon and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School and MVCC. He served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. On February 26, 1954, he was married to Lucille Rinaldi in Mt. Carmel Church, sharing a blessed union of 67 years, until her passing on August 7, 2021.

Sam began his work career with the General Electric Co. where he remained for 22 years. On September 3, 1973, he joined his dear friend William Macartney III in the operation of the Indium Corporation. Sam began as the plant manager before accepting the position as Vice President of Purchasing, remaining in that position for many years until his semi-retirement in 1999. Sam continued to work with the company as a consultant, right up until his passing, recently celebrating 50 years of dedicated service. Sam was not only an integral part of the Indium Corporation but was a dear friend and considered the entire Macartney family as his family.

Surviving are his beloved son and daughter-in-law Samuel J. Jr., and Patricia Simon; his cherished grandchildren Samuel J. III and Ava Simon and Marisa (Simon) Taurisani; three beloved great grandchildren Samuel David Simon, Luke Raymond Taurisani and Jonathan James Simon; special great niece LeAnn Ramey-Martinez and husband Luis Martinez; his nieces and nephews Karen and Dennis Wrate and family and Robert and Donna Rosato and family; also surviving are Sam’s dearest, long-time friends Elaine and Joseph Furgol and their children Grace Anne and David Guski and Judy and Randy Crouse and their families, also Antoinette “Toni” Turi. Sam also leaves behind his Indium Corporation Family; William Macartney IV, Libby Macartney-Mitchell, Barbara Soggs, Linda Macartney, Gregg Evans and Ross Bernston. Also from his Indium family he leaves, Annie, Missy, Jackie, Cal, Mike, Jim, Bart, Mark and all his colleagues.

He was predeceased by his brother Leo Simon, his dear friends William Macartney III and Bernard Turi and several in-laws and extended family members.

Sam’s funeral services will be held in a private setting with the Rev. Fr. Boutros El Hachem officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Lucille in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Sam.
