Thomas J. Norton, age 86, of Utica, passed away on Sunday November 3, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital, with the love and support of his family.
He was born in Utica on March 1, 1938, a son of the late Thomas and Leah Etsen Norton and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School. On December 19, 1956, he was married to Geraldine Marie Grande in Mt. Carmel Church, a blessed union of 66 years until her passing on February 11, 2023.
Tom was employed as a Firefighter having been a dedicated member of the Utica Fire Dept. for over 26 years until his retirement. Tom was also a carpenter by trade, having worked with the Gaetano Construction Corp. for 25 years.
Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman and truly loved the outdoors especially his cabin in the Town of Ohio and Old Forge. He was a proud member of the Paisano Klub and Engine 11.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, whose life was centered around his family. They will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Robert “Bob” Gentile of Yorkville, and Cynthia and Anthony “Tony” Salerno of Utica; one son and daughter-in-law Thomas L. and Dr. Lora (Papandrea) Norton of New Hartford; his beloved grandchildren Robert and Jenna Gentile, Danielle and Adam Prue and Anthony Salerno; his great grandson Landon Gentile and great granddaughter Maddison Prue. He was predeceased by one brother David Norton and one sister Denise Norton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday Nov. 13th at 10:00 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica. The family will greet all visitors at the conclusion of Mass in church. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
