Utica

Mrs. Uliana “Olga” (Alteri) Attili, age 95 of Utica, passed away on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2018 with her beloved family by her side.  It was through the efforts of her children who gave her much love and care that enabled her to stay in her home until her passing.

She was born in Morolo, Italy on February 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Laurina Cecilia Alteri.  Uliana came to Utica as a young girl on the ship, “The President Wilson” and was educated in local schools.  On May 4, 1946 she was united in marriage to Bernardino “Bernard” Attili Jr. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, a blessed union of 71 years, until his passing on January 5, 2018.

Uliana was devoted to her family business, Alteri’s Restaurant, which opened their doors on February 14, 1953 in Clinton, New York.  A hardworking, kind and generous woman, Uliana was the matriarch of her family. Uliana was a staple in the kitchen for many years.  She could cook like no other, her dinners were supreme, her hospitality was wonderful, and her table was always set like a dream. She worked right up until her mid 80’s, alongside her parents, her brother Fernando and his wife Beverly, and her sister, Mary Evans.  Francis Alteri and Lisa Burns carry on the business today.

She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law Bernard III and Elvira Attili, her beloved daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Theodore Zammiello, and her beloved daughter-in-law Donna Attili.  Her cherished grandchildren, Cecilia and Glenn Slattery, Catherine and Michael Visalli, Kristen and Kenneth Lott, John E. Attili and Renee Arcuri, Lt. Bryan Coromato, UPD and Carrie, Nicole’ and Joseph LaPaglia and Anthony and Taryn Coromato.  Her extended grandchildren, Ted and Sarah Zammiello and several beloved great-grandchildren.  Two brothers and a sister-in-law Querino and Ida Alteri of Watertown and former Judge Albert Alteri, Esq. of Utica; and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. They will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband,  Bernardino “Bernard” Attili Jr., her beloved son, John B. Attili on October 14, 2017; her brother Fernando and wife Beverly Alteri and her sister Mary Evans; her in-laws Joseph and Lena Attili, Lucy and Joseph Abdoo, Jerry Sr. and Lena Attili, Anna and Dominick Amadeo, Francis and Angela Attili, Rose and Joseph Tremorello, Dorothy Alteri and her beloved nieces Mary Rose Attili and Ann Marie Meyer and her beloved nephews John Evans and Evan Paye.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.
