Walter A. Ruszala, age 94, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the peace and comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Utica on August 7, 1928, a son of the late John and Anna (Kurek) Ruszala. Walter graduated from local schools and went on to serve his country in the US Navy from 1945-1947. He was a carpenter for several years, working for Majka Construction. Walter built his own house and his brother Gus’s as well. Walter was a talented carpenter and very meticulous in his work. He helped his son John construct his own home as well. He was employed with GAFB for 10 years, before accepting a position with the New Hartford School System, in the Transportation Dept., working for over 20 years, until his retirement. He was married to Ruth Maxwell on August 2, 1958, a blessed union of 64 years.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his sons, John Ruszala, Steven Ruszala and Matthew and Marian Ruszala, all of Frankfort; grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Benjamin, Zoe and Nicholas Ruszala and Stephanie and Daniel Winn; two great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Daniel Jr. “DJ” Winn as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Katherine Ruszala and brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Walter’s wishes, services will be held privately.
