Marcy-William “Bill” R. Whitney, age 54, passed away in the comfort and dignity of his own home on Sunday, August 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on February 15, 1970, in New Hartford to the late Harold and Elizabeth (Withers) Whitney. He graduated from UFA and went on to become a master carpenter. On July 13, 1991, Bill married Francine Giruzzi in Blessed Sacrament Church, a blessed union of 33 years. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed with HR Beebe Construction for 17 years and since 2007, was still employed with the Utica City School District at the time of his passing. Bill took over for his father-in-law, (predeceased, Anthony “Tony” Giruzzi Jr.), as the master carpenter of “the Shop,” at Utica City School district. In his pastime, Bill enjoyed playing his custom-built games, such as cornhole & kubb with friends and family. Spending time at camp, fishing, cooking out & relaxing, was one of his greatest joys.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Fran; his daughter, Alexandria “Allie” (Olin Sanders) Whitney; his granddaughter, Aurora; siblings, Jackie (Christopher) Johnson and Bob (Sue) Whitney; mother-in-law Cathy Giruzzi, in-laws; Philomena (Dennis) Coyne, Anthony Giruzzi III, Rich Mrowka and Tom Scholl as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. The guys at the Shop, especially his brothers-from-another-mother, John Napoli & Joe Testa, and many more. Angela & Regina, from Bella Regina, for always providing Bill his favorite meals, whenever he was wishing for them. Special mention to Mark Lewis, who was able to help provide the family with the things Bill needed help with through his illness. He was predeceased by his sister, Maribeth White.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4-6 PM at the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave, Utica. Funeral services will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 6 PM. Entombment will take in Calvary Mausoleum, at the convenience of the family.
In keeping with Bill's wishes, please omit floral offerings.
