It is with deep sadness that we would like to share that Dr. Gino Trevisani of Waterville, NY passed away early in the morning of July 28, 2021 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Dr. Gino Trevisani was born in Utica, NY on June 18, 1932 to Tommazo “Thomas” and Angelina Filomena Trevisani. He was educated in Utica schools where he graduated from Proctor High School. Gino went on to study at Utica College followed by graduate studies at the University of New Hampshire where he received his MS in Marine Biology. A passionate student of science, Gino went on to study medicine at Tufts University Medical School graduating in 1962. Remaining in Boston to intern at Carney Hospital, Gino met and fell in love with Arlene Lezon, a nurse from Newburyport, MA. Soon after, the couple married on May 27, 1961 in Ipswich before returning to Dr. Trevisani’s hometown of Utica.
Back home in Utica, Dr. Trevisani wasted no time to start his career as a family practitioner. The quintessential family doctor, making house calls and serving as the sideline physician for youth sports; Gino was the consummate altruist. Dr. Trevisani saw no higher calling than to selflessly give back to the community where he was raised and which had meant so much to him. First establishing a clinic on West St, he ultimately began his own practice in Clinton on 101 College Street with his lifelong colleague and friend Sally O’Callaghan. For over 60 years he delivered its babies, stitched up its wounds, and offered warmth and care to newborns, the elderly and everyone in between. Even into his late 80’s Dr. Trevisani could be found tending to the needs of his patients at Advanced Wound Care clinic.
Those fortunate enough to have had Dr. Trevisani in their life were blessed by both his kind heart and his vast clinical skill. His impact on the community was immense. For many, such a distinguished career would be enough. For Dr. Trevisani, no life would be complete without life’s greatest work, raising a family. To know Gino was to know a man for whom nothing was more important than home and family. Growing up in Utica as one of eight children in a loving and busy household. Utica and Gino’s circle of family and friends were part of what drew him home. Home meant Tommy Joe’s Barbershop and Danieles'. But more than a place, home meant family to Gino. It was clear that Gino wanted to create that same kind of loving home he grew up in with his wife Arlene. Almost immediately upon the couple’s return to the Utica area they had their first child in 1962. Over the next 10 years Gino and Arlene had eight children. Every minute not spent with patients Dr. Trevisani could be found devoted to home and family. Home meant time tending his garden, splitting wood, or baking bread. Family time was coveted and treasured. Gino was rarely happier than on the sideline of his children’s games, out in the yard with his children, or beaming at the end of the family dinner table, which had to be fashioned out of a Redwood Tree to hold all 10 Trevisanis. Dr. Trevisani’s legacy is rich. Countless area families owe their health and well being to this boundlessly generous son of Utica. Generations of medical professionals were mentored and nurtured as professionals. Gino’s passion for giving and family are abundantly clear in how his own children have chosen to live their lives. Several have entered the medical profession. Together, Gino’s children have brought 20 grandchildren into the world. Dr. Trevisani was predeceased by his siblings and his beloved daughter Jeanne.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene, seven of his children: Dr. Mary Gina Ratchford (Scott), Dr. Gino Trevisani (Kim), Arlene Ferri (Todd), Tom Trevisani (Alyssa), Karen Livesey (Mark), Laura Wittenbeck (Mike), and Chris Trevisani (Rebecca) and their 20 children Sean and Cody Miller, Ben, Trevor and Catie Ratchford, Olivia, Vivian, Angelo and Dominic Trevisani, Nicholas and Alana Ferri, TJ and Ryan Trevisani, Sophie, Megan, and Jimmy Wittenbeck, Jessica and Ally Livesey and Marko and Giovanni Trevisani; son-in-law Nelson Miller and two sisters-in-law Manuele Trevisani and Anna Trevisani and several nieces and nephews.
