Robert T. “Bob” Giglio, age 71, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2023, at the Waterville Residential Care Center, with his loving family by his side, after a courageous 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Bob was born in Utica, on June 21, 1951, the eldest son of Gloria (Critelli) Giglio and the late Russell T. Giglio. He was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School and the State University College at Utica-Rome, earning his BA Degree in Behavioral Science.
On July 30, 1977, he was married to Denise M. Durso at St. Anthony of Padua Church, a blessed union of 45 years. Through this union came two beautiful daughters of whom he was very proud. Although he loved his girls very much, his greatest joy in life was being a “Papa” to his four grandchildren whom he loved and cherished beyond words.
Bob was a proud veteran, having served our country from 1970-1974 in the US Air Force. He was a hard-working man who was employed for over 30 years with the US Postal Service, retiring as the Operations Support Specialist. In addition, he was a member of the Utica Post #229, the Knights of Columbus, and the Parkway Senior Center.
Throughout the years, Bob could be found on a softball field, basketball court, or running shirtless down Culver Ave. His claim to fame as he would say, was his one and only Boilermaker Run finishing in 59:19. In recent years, you could find Bob at the Parkway Senior Center for hours each day, working out and talking politics with his wife and friends. Bob also enjoyed watching the Mets, Jets and SU Basketball, as well as going to the track and betting on the horses in Saratoga. In addition to his love for sports, he had a love for sitting in the sun, traveling with his family and spoiling his grandkids.
Bob’s family will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
He is survived by, his beloved wife Denise, two daughters and sons-in-law Beth Ann and Carl Nora of Utica and Alicia and Patrick Suarez of N. Colonie; his cherished grandchildren Jackson and Lily Nora and Logan and Sofia Suarez; his dear mother Gloria Giglio; one sister Linda Roberts; two brothers and sisters-in-law Lawrence and Valerie Giglio and Thomas and Tina Giglio; his mother-in-law Grace Durso; his in-laws Cecelia “Cissy” & Vincent Pastorella, and Raymond Jr. and Diana Durso; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob also leaves dear friends, especially Franny and Laurie Pensero, Kim and Sharon Coleman, Terry Zangrilli (Ray), Artie Ellis, Anthony (Chopper) Nicotera, Tommy and Sharon DeBlois, and his Parkway Center Family. He was predeceased by his father Russell Giglio in 1989 and his father-in-law Raymond Durso, Sr. in 2022.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave., Utica.
